Drone footage shows an important nearly dry river in China | the world

Drone footage on Thursday showed the nearly dry bed of the Jialing River, a tributary of the Yangtze River in southwest China. ChinaThe entire region is in the midst of an unprecedented drought.

It rains in the Yangtze basin An unusually low 45% since JulyAnd according to official forecasts, high temperatures will continue for at least another week.

A severe basin-wide heat wave caused by a larger-than-usual subtropical western Pacific high lasted more than two months, reducing hydropower supplies and drying out cropland. The Yangtze River supports one-third of the country’s population.

China warned on Wednesday that a severe drought in the Yangtze River could last until September as local governments raced to maintain power supplies and find new water to irrigate crops ahead of the autumn harvest.

The Chinese government has warned of an increased risk of extreme weather as a result of climate change, and heavy rains continue to affect other parts of the country.
